When I tell people about my business school experience, I tell them that I spent 3.5 years (I did the program part-time) of learning how to do PowerPoint...
I'm adept at creating slides, but actually presenting slides has always been a challenge for me.
My notes throughout the years of giving presentations:
- What's the main point, take away for this slide?
- Focus on the Must Knows of the presentation
- Speak slowly
- Practice, practice, practice
- Confidence - what I have to say is valuable, take time to go through my slides
- Don't rush to please other people - it's ok to take time
- No one expects you to be perfect. No one expects you have all the answers.
- Deep breaths
- Brief bullets, white space, non-cutesy graphics
- Act confident (even when you are not)
- Be an actor and give a performance
- Have fun!
